On March 2nd, 2011, the first progress meeting for the "Vertical City Asia" International Design Competition (VCA) was held in Beijing, between World Future Foundation (WFF) and The School of Design and Environment (SDE) of National University of Singapore (NUS). Mr Lu Bo, Managing Director and Ms Wang Yena, Program Officer from WFF, Prof Heng Chye Kiang, Dean of SDE and Prof Fu Yuming, Associate Dean of SDE, attended the meeting.

As the host of VCA, SDE is in charge of overall coordination and implementation, as well as preparation for the Finals scheduled in coming July. During the meeting, Prof Heng first presented the program’s progress; all candidates from the ten participating universities were currently engaged in initial design for entries until late February. Several operational issues were then discussed in detail such as selection procedure, publicity plan, event website and the Finals. Prof Heng mentioned that there two more universities, one from Korea and one from India, expressed their willingness to join VCA 2011. Due to quota limitations, however, their applications will be considered in next session.

The participants also exchanged their opinions regarding two potential programs: Vertical City Research Center and Vertical City Research Collection.
